～する call [drop in] 《on sb, at sb's house》 on the way; tarry [stop] on the way; 〔旅行で〕 break a journey 《at Nagoya》; stop over 《at…》; 《米》 make [take] a side trip 《to…》; 〔回り道する〕 go out of the [one's] way [route]; make a detour.

●寄り道して帰る 〔ちょっと用を足して帰る〕 stop off somewhere on the way home

・寄り道しながら帰る 〔道草食って遊びながら帰る〕 stop 《to play》 here and there along the way home

・寄り道しないですぐお帰り. Come straight home without stopping along the way.

・途中寄り道するところがあるから, 少し帰りが遅くなるよ. I have something to do on the way home so I'll be a little late.
